My Travel Itinerary (April 18th - April 24th)
Day 1: Getting ThereAfter a 4 hour drive from my hometown of Sudbury, ON to Toronto, my parents and I will take off on the 1.5 hour flight to Boston, arriving in the early afternoon. We'll check into the Four Seasons hotel where we'll be staying for the duration of our trip - as one of Boston's most luxurious hotels it features breathtaking views of some of the city's most notable landmarks. Since we'll be tired from our travels we'll end the day with a nice dinner near our hotel, pick up our numbers for the marathon and head to bed early.
Day 4: Unwinding on the Harbor IslandsAfter a morning of breakfast in bed and massages, we will spend the afternoon exploring the Boston Harbor Islands. These undeveloped islands are open for public recreation where visitors are welcome to hike, swim and view the native wildlife as they please. My parents and I will be boarding a 3-hour whale watching cruise where we'll get the chance to see a variety of whales in their natural habitat while naturalists share their knowledge about marine life. We'd end the day with a nice sunset dinner on the catamaran, enjoying some of Boston's freshest and most delicious seafood.
Day 7: Bye Boston! After an exciting few days in the city of Boston, my family and I will be ready to head back home on a morning flight to Toronto.

Day 2: Pre-race Day in Back BayOur first day will be spent in Back Bay – one of Boston’s most historically notable neighborhoods and home of must-see attractions like the Boston Public Library, Copley Square and Trinity Church. As our hotel is located in this upscale area of the city, the morning will be spent touring and shopping as the streets of Back Bay are flanked with unique boutiques, trendy restaurants and all the clothing stores a girl could ask for!
In anticipation of race day, we wouldn’t want to stay on our feet too long so after enjoying a nice lunch we’ll head back to the hotel for the afternoon to rest. A carb-filled dinner to end the day and off to sleep we’ll go, excited for the 26.2 mile adventure that awaited us!
Day 5: Typical TouristsWe'll take a morning trip to Cambridge to visit Harvard University - this Ivy League establishment is not only the oldest university in the US but it is also one of the most prestigious schools in the world. We'll tour the beautiful campus and be sure not to leave without buying a sweater in their illustrious school colours.
Although I'm not a baseball fan and would much rather watch the Bruins play, we'd spend the afternoon taking in a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Established in 1912, Fenway is the oldest ballpark in the MLB and to this day is still able to provide an exciting and enthusiastic atmosphere that can't be found anywhere else. We'll enjoy live music, great food and the company of other fans as we cheer the Sox on to victory!

Day 3: MARATHON DAY!After an early wakeup call, we'll catch the 6am bus to the start of the race, making sure to prepare ourselves accordingly during the 3 hour drive. After taking in all the excitement at the starting line we'll embark on our 26.2 mile journey through the state of Massachusetts and finish later on in the day with a great sense of accomplishment. After properly recovering and replenishing our bodies we'll head off to the B.A.A. post-race party held at Fenway Park and the House of Blues where we'll enjoy live music, food, drinks and the company of fellow runners. What a day!
Day 6: A Little Bit of HistoryWe'll spend our last morning taking a stroll along the Freedom Trail - a 2.5 mile long path through downtown Boston that passes through 16 of the city's most historic landmarks including the Boston Common, Park Street Church and Faneuil Hall. My parents and I will then stop at the Quincy Market - a public marketplace built in the 1700s chock-full of restaurants, shops and vendors. The afternoon will be spent perusing the venue and enjoying some of the live entertainment offered there.
Having just turned 21, I will be taking advantage of my legality during a Samuel Adams Brewery tour. Sam Adams is a major American brand of beer that originated in Boston with its main brewery still located there today. We'll experience the craft brewing process and taste some of their renowned beers! To finish off the evening we'll dine at the world famous Union Oyster House - the oldest continually operating restaurant in the US where we'll enjoy some of the finest seafood Boston has to offer.
